Kalinoŭski’s Regiment announces formation of new battalion
August 22, BPN. The Kastuś Kalinoŭski Regiment, consisting of Belarusian volunteers fighting Russia in Ukraine, has formed the Lićvin battalion, spokesperson for the regiment, Kryścina Stankievič (call sign Čabor), has told journalists.
She noted that the number of Belarusians ready to fight Russia in Ukraine is steadily growing.
Stankievič also said that the regiment underwent “certain changes” last week as a breakaway group from the Teror battalion left it. She noted that the move has not undermined the regiment’s combatworthiness and unity. “Each soldier has the right to a personal opinion, but we all have one goal that is at the core of our regiment – we liberate Belarus through the liberation of Ukraine,” she added.
On August 19, the Kalinoŭski’s Regiment reported that the Ukrainian military command dismissed the commander of the Teror battalion, call sign Varah. A group of soldiers who disagreed with that decision left, retaining their unit’s name.
The Kalinoŭski regiment was formed of Belarusian volunteers in Ukraine in March 2022, initially as a battalion.
In late May, Belarus opened a criminal case against some of its volunteers on charges of participation in a foreign armed conflict. Belarusian police said at the time that they had identified 50 members.
