Opposition politician warns Łukašenka is about to receive nuclear weapons
August 29, BPN. Russia has already transferred or is preparing to transfer its nuclear weapons to Alaksandr Łukašenka’s regime, Pavieł Łatuška, a member of the opposition’s transition cabinet, told Ukraine’s Apostrof TV.
The remark came one month after Łukašenka had discussed with Vladimir Putin an upgrade program to enable Belarusian warplanes to carry nuclear weapons.
“As a former ambassador and member of the government, I have no illusions that everything that Łukašenka says on this topic is true,” Łatuška said. “Nuclear weapons are already in Belarus or are on their way.”
The opposition politician warned that Łukašenka may use the weapons of mass destruction as “a tool to hold on to power,” while “blackmailing the rest of the world.”
On August 26, Łukašenka once again threatened the West with nuclear weapons and said that Russia had re-equipped Belarus’ Sukhoi aircraft for firing nuclear missiles.
On June 27, the G7 leaders expressed serious concern after the announcement by Russia that it could transfer missiles with nuclear capabilities to Belarus. They stressed that Russia should comply with its international obligations, including those prohibiting the use of chemical, biological or nuclear weapons.
