BYPOL dismisses terrorism ruling as unlawful

August 31, BPN. The BYPOL association of former security officers has told BPN that it considers the “terrorist organization” label attached to it by the Alaksandr Łukašenka regime unlawful.

It says it prefers not to comment on or react to “this, previous and similar statements” as they “have no effect at all” on the association’s activities.

Media reported on August 31 the Belarusian Supreme Court had recognized BYPOL and its constituent units Situational Analytical Center and Pieramoha Plan as a terrorist group.

The Prosecutor General’s Office says BYPOL’s activities are connected with “planting radical ideas in society and instigating citizens to extremist activities to change the constitutional order of the Republic of Belarus by illegal means.”

BYPOL was established following the August 2020 protests and mainly operates abroad.
