Belarus’ agricultural production ranks last in Russian-led economic union

September 5, BPN. Belarus remains the Eurasian Economic Union’s (EEU) underdog in terms of agricultural production dynamics, the Eurasian Economic Commission’s statistics for January-July 2022 indicate.

Over the seven months, agricultural production in Belarus shrunk by 10.4 percent year on year. Other EAEU member states reported growth: Russia, 1.8 percent; Kazakhstan, 2.1 percent; Kyrgyzstan, 8.4 percent. Armenia has not disclosed the agricultural production figures.

In the July 26 conference call on the ongoing harvesting campaign, Alaksandr Łukašenka said “there must be no decrease in agricultural production as compared with last year.” He laid “personal responsibility” on the prime minister, agriculture minister and executive committee chairpersons.
