Belarusians positive about USA, EU in spite of propaganda – pollster
September 9, BPN. An online poll by Belarus Initiative revealed that, in spite of anti-Western propaganda, respondents have good attitudes towards the USA and EU member states, the initiative’s head Ryhor Astapienia said on September 9.
The survey of some 800 people across Belarus was conducted on August 4-21.
A very good or mostly good view of Poland was expressed by 65 percent of those polled; about Lithuania, by 66 percent; about the EU in general, by 66 percent; about the USA, by 51 percent.
“In spite of the Belarusian state television’s influence and regular accusations against the West by many officials, anti-Western rhetoric does not work,” Astapenia said.
At the same time, respondents were most positive about Russia, with 71 percent expressing a good or mostly good attitude.
Belarus Initiative is a program at Chatham House, a high-profile British think tank.
