BySol founder: Part of government system creates conditions for rescuing victims of political persecution
September 16, BPN. Elements of the government system create conditions that “allow us to work effectively,” including to evacuate victims of political persecution, BySol founder Andrej Stryžak has told BPN.
“It is difficult to tell whether this happens intentionally or not, but there is a clear trend. I think the reason is that even within the regime there is no agreement on how to deal with dissidents,” Stryžak said.
More than 1,000 people applied to the foundation for help with relocation. “Everyone received initial advice, at the very least. Unfortunately, some people contacted us too late. They did not have time to get to safety before law enforcers would reach them. Some of them stopped communicating after receiving instructions, and after a while we found out that they have gone all the way on their own. Sometimes we take a person through all the stages literally by the hand. And in the most difficult cases, the evacuee disappears in one place and appears in another,” Stryžak said.
Belarus has labeled BySol as an extremist group for helping victims of politically motivated persecution.
