Logistics prevent foreigners from receiving treatment for cancer in Belarus – doctor
February 1, BPN. The number of foreigners receiving cancer treatment in Belarus fell last year because of logistics issues, Siarhiej Palakoŭ, chief physician at the major Belarusian cancer treatment center, told journalists.
The center treated about 2,500 foreigners in 2022, with most patients coming from Russia, Central Asia, Ukraine, Lithuania and Latvia, he added.
Belarus uses high-tech methods similar to those used in Western Europe, but Belarusian facilities provide services at lower costs, said Siarhiej Krasny, one of the center’s research directors.
For instance, Belarus offers CAR T-cell therapy at the price of $50,000, while its cost in the European Union is at least 10 times higher, said Maryna Barysievič, deputy director at the children’s oncology center.
Belarusian surgeons performed over 50 lung cancer surgeries using 3D modeling in 2022. Molecular genetic studies, which determine sensitivity to various drugs and predisposition to malignant tumors, were also popular.
