OSCE Parliamentary Assembly urges Minsk to stop desecrating Polish soldiers’ graves in Belarus
July 5, BPN. Desecration of Polish soldiers’ graves in Belarus must stop immediately, says a new resolution by the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe Parliamentary Assembly that convened from June 30 to July 4 in Vancouver.
Belarusian authorities should “condemn these acts, restore all destroyed sites, as well as investigate the deeds,” it noted.
The resolution stressed the “urgent need to protect Polish graves in Belarus from further desecration and vandalism” and prevent similar incidents in the future. The MPs described soldiers’ graves as reminders of “the horrors of war and genocide.”
Attacks on Polish soldiers’ graves and memorials in Belarus have been reported since June 2022. By late October, reports said that Belarusian authorities sanctioned the destruction of at least 13 Polish memorial sites, including war graves, monuments and memorial signs.
Warsaw has repeatedly condemned such actions yet Minsk kept denying any involvement claiming that the burials were “not registered.”
