Cichanoŭskaja seeks to expand pro-democracy forces’ links to Austria

September 5, Pozirk. Belarusian opposition leader Śviatłana Cichanoŭskaja discussed regional security and support for Belarusian civil society with Austrian Foreign Minister Beate Meinl-Reisinger yesterday in Vienna, her aide Franak Viačorka told Pozirk.
Cichanoŭskaja called on Austria to support the International Humanitarian Fund for Belarusian reprisal victims and suggested setting up a Belarusian pro-democracy forces’ office in Vienna to deepen ties and enhance international coordination.
Such offices are already operating in Prague, Tallinn and Brussels, she noted. The politician also lobbied for the appointment of a special envoy for Belarus and cooperation within the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and the Council of Europe.
Austria continues to strongly advocate for the release of all jailed Belarusian regime critics, Meinl-Reisinger said on X following the meeting.
