Pro-EU party wins Moldovan parliamentary election, pro-Russian bloc leads in Minsk vote

September 29, Pozirk. The Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS), founded by pro-European President Maia Sandu, is set to win Moldova’s parliamentary election.
With 99.38 percent of ballots counted, the ruling party has secured 49.95 percent of the vote, according to the Central Electoral Commission.
Belarusian pro-democracy leader Śviatłana Cichanoŭskaja welcomed the victory.
“Your success is a signal to all peoples in Eastern Europe: a European future is possible, and it is worth fighting for,” she said.
The pro-Russian Patriotic Electoral Bloc, led by Igor Dodon, head of the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova, placed second with 24.31 percent. The Alternative bloc, which positions itself as a critic of both the government and the opposition, came third with 8 percent. Alternative was founded by Ion Ceban, the mayor of Chișinău who ran against Sandu in the 2024 presidential election, along with Alexandr Stoianoglo and other politicians.
At the Moldovan embassy in Minsk, the Patriotic Electoral Bloc won a majority with 53.19 percent (150 votes). PAS followed with 28.72 percent (81 votes), while Alternative received 9.22 percent (26 votes). A total of 288 ballots were cast, 282 of which were valid.
According to reports, dozens of Moldovan citizens were bused from Russia to Minsk in order to vote.
