Belarus’ cattle population down 24 percent during Łukašenka’s rule

September 30, Pozirk. Belarus counted 3.96 million head of cattle in late August, 2.6 percent fewer than a year earlier, according to Pozirk’s analysis of data from the National Statistical Committee (Biełstat).

The pig population also declined, dropping by almost 10 percent to just over 2 million.

The number of cattle has been falling steadily since early 2019, decreasing from 4.3 million then to 4.1 million at the start of 2025.

Overall, Belarus’ cattle population has plunged by 24 percent during the 30-year rule of Alaksandar Łukašenka, a former collective farm boss.
