Viciebsk journalist freed after questioning

August 23, BPN. Siarhiej Sierabro, editor-in-chief of the regional media Narodnyye Novosti Viciebska (NNV), has been released from the interior ministry’s organized crime unit GUBOPiK after questioning about his work during the 2020 post-election protests.

“I’m free. Everything is OK, there were no incidents,” the journalist wrote on Facebook. “I gave an ‘explanation’ of how I covered the 2020 events. They ‘reproached’ me for NNV not paying enough attention to crime. I don’t know if they were serious, because it seems to be ahead of all the regional media in this respect.”

Sierabro, who had been arrested in 2020 while covering protests in Viciebsk, was summoned to GUBOPiK earlier the same day.
