Belarus investigates Ukrainian MP for threatening Łukašenka
August 25, BPN. The Belarusian Prosecutor General’s Office says criminal proceedings have been instituted against Ukrainian MP Oleksiy Honcharenko.
“He is charged with threatening violence against the president of the Republic of Belarus and with discrediting our country,” it said in a press release.
“It was established that in a reference to the Belarusian president’s greetings to the people of Ukraine on Independence Day, the suspect made an online post containing a threat against Alaksandr Łukašenka, as well as false information about the political and social situation in Belarus,” the Prosecutor General’s Office said.
The case has been referred to the Investigative Committee for preliminary investigation.
Honcharenko has already commented on the development on social media: “I am charged with threatening violence to the ‘president’ of Belarus and discrediting the Republic of Belarus. One question, where did I threaten Śviatłana Cichanoŭskaja with violence? ))) I threatened your clown Łukašenka, who has illegally seized power and whom you help enslave my beloved Belarusian people. Long live Belarus!”
On August 24, in a congratulatory message to the Ukrainian people on the occasion of Independence Day, Łukašenka, a clear supporter of Russian aggression against the sovereign state, wished it “peaceful skies, tolerance, courage, strength and success in restoring a decent life.”
“On Ukraine’s next Independence Day, Łukašenka will hang on a [lamp] post, and the Belarusian people will be free and live in a democratic state,” Honcharenko, a member of the European Solidarity faction, reacted in his Telegram channel.
Mykhaylo Podolyak, an advisor to the Ukrainian presidential office who lived in Belarus for 15 years before his deportation in 2004, said: “It seems that Łukašenka really believes that the world does not notice his active participation in crimes against UA. Here is why, launching deadly missiles at us, he cynically wishes us a ‘peaceful sky.’”
“This blood-soaked clownery has been recorded and will have concrete consequences, right after the fall of the barbarian ru-empire,” he added.
