Opposition leader’s cousin to stand trial on September 12
September 1, BPN. The Viasna Human Rights Center reports that Anatol Łatuška, Lilija Ananian and Alena Malinoŭskaja, widely regarded as political prisoners, will go on trial in a district court in Minsk on September 12.
The case will be proceeded before Judge Dźmitryj Karsiuk, who made a number of politically motivated decisions and was sanctioned by the European Union.
Anatol Łatuška, Alena Malinoŭskaja and Lilija Ananian were arrested in January 2022 for allegedly drawing the Pahonia coat of arms on mailboxes.
Anatol Łatuška’s cousin, Europe-based opposition politician Pavieł Łatuška, is investigated for terrorism and bribe-taking. In January 2022, there were reports that the State Control Committee opened a criminal case against Pavieł’s daughter Jana Łatuška, who lives in Poland.
On August 25, police arrested Anatol Łatuška’s wife Alena Łatuška. Her home was searched as part of a criminal investigation into gross violations of public order.
