KGB blacklists opposition transition cabinet as “extremist group”

September 8, BPN. The Committee for the State Security (KGB) branded “the leaders, founders, and participants of the initiative Joint Transition Cabinet” an “extremist group” and added a corresponding entry on its list of extremist organizations on September 5.

On the same day, the interior ministry also blacklisted STOP LUKA Telegram channel with 825 subscribers as well as its other social media groups.

Belarusian opposition leader Sviatłana Cichanoŭskaja announced the creation of the opposition’s transition cabinet at a conference in Vilnius on August 9.

It includes Pavieł Łatuška, in charge of power transition; Alaksandar Azaraŭ from the BYPOL association of former security forces as a representative for the restoration of law and order; Valer Kavaleŭski, currently head of Cichanoŭskaja’s apparatus, responsible for foreign affairs; and Lieutenant Colonel Valer Sachaščyk, in charge of defense and national security.

According to Cichanoŭskaja, the goals of the transition cabinet include “protecting Belarus’ independence and sovereignty, representing national interests and implementing the country’s actual de-occupation.”
