Russia approves draft antimonopoly agreement with Belarus

September 12, BPN. Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin approved a draft intergovernmental agreement with Belarus on common rules of competition in the Union State of Russia and Belarus.

It aims to harmonize antimonopoly legislation in both countries and to create conditions and legal basis for protecting competition to ensure free movement of goods and services.

As soon as the agreement comes into force, the antimonopoly agencies both in Russia and Belarus will work together to prevent unfair competition and apply antimonopoly legislation in the Union State.

The Russian government stressed that the agreement has been drafted as part of the 28 Union State programs approved in November 2021.

The treaty on the establishment of the Union State was signed on December 8, 1999 and entered into force on January 26, 2000. The Union State budget is made up of contributions from Russia (65 percent) and Belarus (35).
