Foreign Minister Makiej to represent Minsk at UN General Assembly
September 19, BPN. Foreign Minister Uładzimir Makiej will head the official Belarusian delegation at the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly scheduled to take place from September 21 to 26 in New York, Belarusian foreign ministry’s press office reported.
It noted that the delegation will focus on defending national interests amid the current international security crisis and opposing the legalization of the Western sanctions against Belarus.
Makiej will speak at the UN general debate and meet with the foreign ministers of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM). He will also take part in ministerial meetings to discuss defense of the UN Charter.
Makiej plans to attend the signing of the convention facilitating rail border crossing procedures. He will also meet “colleagues from Europe, Latin America, Southeast Asia, and the UN leadership,” the ministry said.
Belarusian democratic leader Sv́iatłana Cichanoŭskaja will also take part in the 77th UN General Assembly. She will have a number of high-level meetings, including with the president of the European Commission and US Department of State officials.
