Lithuanian MPs vote to ban Russian, Belarusian broadcasts over disinformation

September 22, BPN. One hundred and thirteen Lithuanian MPs supported a ban on Russian and Belarusian TV and radio broadcasts until October 16, 2024, Delfi reported.

The amendment provides for a temporary ban on the distribution of radio and TV programs, including online, produced by individuals directly or indirectly controlled or funded by Russia and Belarus.

Vytautas Juozapaitis, chair of the Seimas committee on culture, stressed that Lithuania must protect its information environment.

The bill was rushed through the Seimas days after Lithuania had limited a state of emergency to border areas. The new state of emergency does not provide for a broadcast ban.
