Police arrest event organizers after large crowds gather at Minsk mall

September 25, BPN. Police have arrested the organizers of a teenager event that attracted large crowds to Dana Mall in Minsk on September 24, the interior ministry reported.

People gathered there to meet Russian singer and blogger Milana Khametova, 12, pictures and videos from social media showed.

The police officers who arrived at the scene interrupted the event and dispersed groups of teenagers to prevent a stampede, the ministry said.

Eyewitnesses told journalists that an overloaded elevator fell from the second floor at the building.

The health ministry said that it dispatched one intensive care unit and four ambulance crews to Dana Mall following reports of an “emergency cabin stop” of the elevator that transported about 20 people. The ministry added that all victims received medical aid.

The Investigative Committee issued a press release later that night saying that elevator passengers had been injured.
