Security chief says Belarus to respond to West’s military build-up

September 26, BPN. Western countries are targeting alleged threats in Belarus with their joint forces stationed in Eastern Europe, Alaksandr Valfovič, head of the Belarusian Security Council, said in an interview broadcast by Belarus 1 on September 25.

Valfovič noted an increased number of military drills in the EU along with a large military presence of the United States near the borders of Russia and Belarus, which he estimated at 35,000 personnel and over 2,000 aircraft. He also noted that the West has 15 warships in the Mediterranean and Baltic Seas, carrying over 300 cruise missiles.

Valfovič said that Belarus is planning a response to the increased military presence in the neighboring countries.
