July 29, Pozirk. Alaksandar Łukašenka met with visiting Ethiopian Foreign Minister Gedion Timothewos in Minsk, the Belarusian leader’s press office reported.

The visit comes as Belarus is frantically seeking to boost exports to Africa, Asia and Latin America amid tensions with the European Union, its major trading partner.

Łukašenka told Timothewos his country is open to cooperation in all areas, including trade in food, agricultural equipment and military goods.

Belarusian Foreign Minister Maksim Ryžankoŭ visited Ethiopia in mid-April.

Trade between the two countries amounted to $1.3 million in 2021, according to the Belarusian foreign ministry. More recent country-specific trade data has been classified by the Belarusian government.
